FWW Celebrates 20th Anniversary

On February 7, 2019, 150 employees, guests, and friends celebrated 20 years of continued FWW success with an anniversary gala.

In 1998, market information on funds was not only hard to come by for investors, but its accuracy frequently left a lot to be desired. Frederik Garnies and Torsten Iben sensed an opportunity regarding research, preparation and electronic distribution of fund data – an opportunity that marked the beginning of Financial Webworks GmbH.

The FWW fund database grew steadily and rapidly, with FWW currently managing information on over 34,000 share classes. Over the following years, several service applications evolved out of the database to meet the demands of banks, fund platforms, asset managers, financial portals, financial distributors and broker pools alike. Today, the wide range of services includes the FoF-Analyzer, a tool launched in 2005 and designed for the detailed analysis of the German fund of funds market, as well as the FWW FundStars, an independent fund rating and seal of approval.

fondsweb.de, one of the oldest and best-established fund data portals in the DACH area, was launched in 1999. Right from the start, the website aimed at providing more transparency for the German-speaking financial market. In 2002, Austrian spin-off fondsweb.at was launched; fondsweb.ch, the Swiss market equivalent, followed in early 2018 after an extensive revision.

In 2015, Asset International (later Strategic Insight) acquired FWW’s operative business, with Matthias Rothe and Marc Bonnet becoming joint managing directors in 2016. The laudatory speech therefore not only struck an extremely positive balance, but also looked ahead: "The past 20 years as well as the course of the digital transformation have shown that our philosophy is in perfect step with the times. Our principles in mind, we will therefore shape the investment decisions of advisors and investors alike with transparent, topical and thorough data for the next 20 years to come.”
